Under the department’s SBCC program funded by the USAID, yoga sessions were held in Tibetan settlements to promote health amongst various initiatives. The most recent was held in July at Dekyiling settlement where around 40 adults participated. Currently several yoga sessions are under way at Tibetan settlements in South and Central India as well as at Bir settlement. The month long yoga program, began on September 1st and will continue till the end of this month. The sessions are carried out by certified trainers which is aimed towards promotion of selfcare impacting overall well being. The global recommendation for an adult is 150 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity per week or approximately 20 minutes of moderate physical activity per day. As per WHO physical activity in adults, contributes to prevention and management of NCDs, reduces symptoms of depression and anxiety and can improve over all wellbeing.
