COVID-19 EMERGENCY PUBLIC FUND

 

Dharamsala:  As of 13th May 2021, India is presently experiencing a severe COVID-19 surge with 375,179 average daily new cases and 4,021 average death per day since 6th May, 2021. Unlike the earlier wave, the current wave is devastating communities across India. Tibetan settlements in India are also being impacted particularly Dharamshala, Dehradun, Bylakuppe, Ladakh, Bir, Hunsur, and Odisha settlements. Situation in Nepal is also getting serious. In the past week, 443 new covid cases and 22 deaths cases in the Tibetan settlements in India and Nepal were reported.

CTA’s Department of Health (DOH) has been providing all the possible medical support and other COVID-19 emergency services to the Tibetan refugee communities through its 42 health centers, 90 quarantine centers, and 8 COVID Care Centres across India and Nepal. As of May 13, 2021, a total of 3377 cases with 1,175 active, 2119 recovered and 183 deaths were reported from various Tibetan settlements. There are currently 914 Tibetans in various quarantine centers.  In these centers, the local healthcare workers closely monitor the health of the people suffering from COVID-19 through timely medical assistance. Services provided includes: Covid testing support; provision of emergency medical equipment and supplies; quarantine and covid care centers; ambulance services; provision of Sorig immune booster pills; recruitment of additional health workers and support staff for health facilities, mental health counseling; distribution of universal precaution supplies and support and guidance to access vaccines.
