Workshop on HIV/AIDS

Nurses developing individual, community and family health education plan on HIV
The department of Health is organizing a three day workshop on HIV/AIDS (Counselling, Stigma, and Discrimination) to patients and nurses from settlements across India. Through this PRM funded workshop the department broadly aims to address the prevailing stigma and discrimination surrounding HIV/AIDS in our community, and to strengthen holistic care for people living with HIV. The workshop began on 29th May with 23 participants at the Administrative Training & Welfare Society, Dharamshala. Mr. Jampa Phuntsok, Secretary of the department was the chief guest to the opening Ceremony  accompanied by the department’s Additional Secretary, Mrs. Dickyi Dolker.

The workshop will be delivered in a train-the-trainer format where two sessions will be held simultaneously for the nurses and patients. Varied professionals were arranged for the sessions to cover diverse areas, such as 1) Dr. Sapna Sharma and her team from Tanda government Hospital postgraduates, topic: overview of HIV &new development+HIV case study discussion (include a short info on PEP & PREP, HIV & TB), 2) Dr. Anoop kumar and Dr. Neha from YRG care NGO, topic: Patient centric package, ART services for special population, Prevention of Transmission of HIV/EVTHs. And HIV act 2017. 3) Geshela Lhakdor la from LTWA Dharamshala, Topic: Care giving through Buddhist perspectives. 4) Dr. Tenzin Tsomo from Delek Hospital, topic: HIV overview from western medicine perspective (Difference between HIV/AIDS importance of of Rx, prevention of opportunistic infection) 5) Dr. Tenzin Paldon from Mentsekhang Dharamshala, topic: Overview concept of Traditional Tibetan Medicine.6) Mrs. Ngawang Tenzin Department of Health, Public health specialist, topic: STIs(Conducting community awareness).Group presentation on HIV SBCC, Developing personal self-care plan. 7) Ms.Tenzin Choenden and Ms. Tenzin Kalsang from Department of Health ,topic: Peer to peer sharing.(Sharing circles: strengths/Challenges). Activity building a resilience toolbox.
The workshop will conclude with a farewell dinner followed by sightseeing at Norbulinga institute and Gyutoe monastery.
