
A recent educational workshop plus training for WASH committee members, TPHC Staffs and TSO staff of Mundgod and 3 central Tibetan settlements concluded successfully, The workshop was organized by the department of health in collaboration with CURE, India aimed towards improving access to safe drinking water and promote effective sanitation practices within the communities.
The training/workshop included important issues such as groundwater recharge, tank cleaning, platform maintenance, and sewer system upkeep. Participants were taught to clean recharge areas biweekly, water tanks every two months, and perform regular system checks through a combination of theoretical teaching and onsite visits. Indian blackberry branches were suggested as a way to avoid algae formation, as well as copper kitchenware for their antimicrobial characteristics. Furthermore, appropriate ventilation of septic tanks was emphasized to prevent the accumulation of dangerous gases. This training is an important step toward increasing the capacity of WASH committees and staff to guarantee healthier, safer living conditions in Tibetan communities through improved drinking water and sanitation practices.
