The Department of Health (DoH), with funding from the U.S. Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration in support of global humanitarian activities, and in collaboration with the Zhedhey Khangsar Drug Rehabilitation Centre, organised a substance
abuse campaign and visited five schools in Himachal Pradesh.
The programme was delivered at TCV Suja, TCV Chauntra, STS Chauntra, TCV Gopalpur and TCV Lower Dharamsala from 18-20 August 2016. Starting with an introduction to drugs and their effects, the danger of addiction, and possible treatment regimes, former drug addicts then shared their personal experiences and stories with the students. Each session ended with an interactive discussion, so students could ask questions and clear their confusion about drug abuse, addiction and treatment.
In the end, both the DoH and the schools were pleased with the programme’s effectiveness.
