Dharamsala 3.9.2026: The Norzang Foundation, a long-standing supporter of the Tibetan Medicare System (TMS) visited the Department of Health in Dharamshala as part of its continued engagement and support for the healthcare needs of the Tibetan community. The Foundation has been making annual financial contributions towards essential medicines for TMS members.
The delegation was led by the Foundation’s President, Mr. Christian Huggenberg, and included Mr. Tsering Dorjee, Ms. Anna Ladina and Mr. Tenzin Choewang Dorjee. The delegation was warmly received by Kalon Pema Tso, Secretary Jampa Phuntsok, Add. Secretary Tenzin Norbu, Dy. Secretary Yeshi Dolma and TMS staff at the Department of Health. During the meeting, Kalon Pema Tso gave an overview of the Department’s ongoing activities and highlighted key programmes and projects, including the Hepatitis B Programme, Maternal and Child Health (MCH) water & Sanitation, among others. Health Secretary Jampa Phuntsok then provided an overview of the structure and functioning of the Department of Health, with emphasis on the Tibetan Medicare System (TMS). He highlighted the importance of the programme and acknowledged the valuable support provided by donors such as the Norzang Foundation in helping ensure timely access to medical care for Tibetans in need, particularly during medical emergencies.
Mr. Christian Huggenberg shared an overview of the Foundation’s objectives and key areas of focus. He reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to supporting Tibetans in vulnerable situations, including those affected by the recent flooding along the Nepal–Tibet border, as well as Tibetans living in remote areas. The discussion also touched other potential areas for further collaboration and support in the future.
The meeting concluded with Kalon Pema Tso expressing sincere appreciation to the Norzang Foundation for its continued support and commitment to the welfare of the Tibetan community. As a gesture of gratitude, a small heartfelt gift and memento were presented to the visiting delegation.
The visit provided an opportunity for the Norzang Foundation and the Department of Health to strengthen their collaboration and discuss further opportunities to support healthcare access and the well-being of Tibetans in need.
