Networking with TB Program Officials of Arunachal Pradesh State and Orientation Workshop for the Field Staff of Miao and Tezu Settlement on Global Fund TB Project

The visit to North East was a very fruitful one as Dr. Lobsang Tsering, Head of Public Health Division was able to meet the District TB Officers (DTO), Arunachal Pradesh of Miao and Tezu region from 8th to 17th November 2016. The DTO at Changlang was aware of the Global Fund project and agreed to extend all help in implementing it. If needed, she agreed to send a staff from the district to do sputum microscopy during the program implementation at the household level. Dr. also visited the local Indian government hospital at Miao and meeting the STS who had agreed to extend support to Global Fund project. We will be referring all our TB suspects to the local hospital for diagnosis and treatment initiation. DOT support will be given by our health staffs.

And also impart on-the-job training to the health staff on the activities related to Active Case Finding (TB Screening) in schools and monasteries in the two settlements, how to conduct Contact Tracing and also follow-up of the people who had completed TB Treatment. He also discussed the Global Fund quarterly report and the need for TB suspect register and documentation of Contact Tracing activities. Dr. Lobsang also was able to install the EPI-INFO 7 software for TB data entry and reporting at the two settlements.

Under the GF project, we have budget to provide an X-ray machine and a microscope to the health facility. The building to house the equipment is under construction. The structure will have a X-ray room, a laboratory room and a physiotherapy room. The financial support to the building was provided by German Aid to Tibetans, Germany.
