Knowing Cancer to beat Cancer

On World Cancer Day, February 4, 2026, cancer awareness and screening were held in Tibetan communities in India. While some health centers prioritize malignancies affecting women, such as cervical and breast cancer, others focus on cancers affecting the population, namely cancer of the digestive tract and lungs.

The target audiences included people of all ages, and professionals within the collective along with neighboring hospitals were tasked to provide powerful and factual conversations. Key discussions emphasized the causes of cancer, preventive strategies, early detection, and adoption of healthy lifestyle. Besides the awareness sessions, some settlements offered free Pap smear checks, mammography scans, breast self-examination skills, Games, art competition, and blood pressure screenings. The day was well-attended by people of all ages, and the community’s understanding and awareness of cancer strengthened.
