As 26th June coincided with international day against substance abuse. Tibetan health centers under the department across Indian states observed the day to spread awareness on growing challenges and its effects on individuals and communities at large. A total of 2365(M1299/F1066) individuals especially students were engaged through diverse initiatives such as Drawing competition, Quiz, Essay writing, Volley ball, basket ball, cricket match, marathon and creative activities. Resource persons within the health team such as Doctors and nurses, Law enforcement personnel and Survivors highlighted harmful effects of substance abuse on physical and mental health. legal actions on procurement, distribution and consumption of illicit drugs were presented. Survivors shared their personal journey and challenges in overcoming addiction. Indian government apps to discreetly lodge complains on illicit drug use were also introduced to tackle and address the challenges.In some settlement the day extended beyond 26th June in larger Tibetan settlements and concluded successfully. The program is funded by the Bureau of population Refugees and migration (PRM) U.S department of state.
