Under the aegis of Department of Health, CTA, Dhondenling Van Theil Charitable Hospital, Kollegal in collaboration with American Himalayan Foundation and Aravind Eye Hospital, Coimbatore conducted two successive Free Eye Screening and surgery camps on 1 December 1 2017 and 6 January 2018.

A team of Doctors and Paramedical staff of Aravind Eye Hospital screened 144 individuals (97 Tibetans and 47 Indians) with preliminary vision and basic medical tests on 1 December 2017, followed by a screening of 81 individuals (60 Tibetans and 21 Indians) on 6 January 2018.

As a result, 27 Tibetans and 17 Indians were operated for Cataract and 3 Tibetans and 3 Indians were operated for Pterygium and other laser treatments. The operated patients were reviewed for any complications and more cases will be identified in the three-year project duration funded by American Himalayan Foundation.

With such Eye camps Department of Health, CTA hopes to prevent blindness and improve quality of life.
