Dharamsala: The Every Mother and Child (EMC) Health Care Workshop for nurses was successfully conducted from 26th to 28th May 2026 at the Administrative Training and Welfare Society (ATWS). A total of 34 Maternal and Child Health (MCH) program nurses from 32 Tibetan settlements participated in the workshop. The workshop aimed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of nurses in providing comprehensive and evidence-based maternal and child health care services.

The workshop commenced with a welcome address by Health Secretary Mr. Jampa Phuntsok. Over the three days, participants attended sessions on antenatal and postnatal care conducted by Dr. Namdol and Dr. Dechen from Delek Hospital. Sessions on newborn care, growth, and child development were conducted by Dr. Phagdol.

Specialized sessions on autism awareness and management were led by Ms. Pema Dolma and Amanda Augustine, Clinical Director at Early Autism Ventures. Mr. Nyima, special child educator from Petoen School, conducted sessions on inclusive child care, counselling parents with empathy, communication with children, and behavior management techniques.

On the final day, participants received blessings from His Holiness the Dalai Lama. This was followed by sessions led by Department of Health EMC staff member Ms. Tseyang, focusing on program guidelines, data management, challenges, and recommendations. Department zone heads Mr. Namgyal Gendun and Mr. Sonam Dhundup also addressed participants on implementation issues and related challenges.

Pre- and post-training surveys, along with participant feedback forms, were conducted to assess the effectiveness and relevance of the workshop sessions.The workshop concluded successfully with closing remarks and a vote of thanks delivered by the Department’s Joint Sec. Ms. Pema Youdon. The workshop was conducted with generous funding support from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs (USDOS-SCA).
