Dehradun : From August 14th to August 18th, 2023, the Departments of Home and Health hosted a workshop at Dekyiling Tibetan settlement focused on caring for older Tibetan individuals. The event was attended by 52 settlement nurses, community health workers, and caretakers from India and Nepal.
Dr. Lobsang Tsering la (MBBS, MPH, PGDBDM) led the workshop, which was funded by USAID. During the opening ceremony, Dekyiling Settlement Officer Dhondup Gyalpo emphasized the importance of health in every community and the need for elder care programs to meet the unique needs of elders living in Old People Homes and settlements. He encouraged attendees to participate fully in the workshop and strengthen best practices with available resources from the administration. Throughout the workshop, participants had the opportunity to learn about major diseases affecting older Tibetan individuals, identify risks, and discuss preventive and promotive health interventions. The hope is that through this workshop, attendees will be better equipped to address the unique health issues affecting elders in their communities.
