Department of Health Invites Tibetans in India to Enrol in Tibetan Medicare System (TMS)

Dharamshala: The Department of Health of the Central Tibetan Administration invites and encourages Tibetans in India to enrol themselves in the Tibetan Medicare System (TMS). All Tibetans in settlements are requested to reach out to their respective Tibetan settlement offices or local Tibetan Health Centres for enrolment in the TMS program. TMS registration for the financial year 2024-25 commences on 01 January 2024 and registration will be closed on 31 March 2024.

While acknowledging the overwhelming community’s support towards the TMS program, the Department of Health expressed sincere appreciation to all Tibetans who are already enrolled in the TMS program for the current financial year 2023-24 and encouraged existing TMS members to renew their registration. Tibetans who have not yet taken part in the TMS program are requested to enrol in the TMS program not only to secure one’s health but also to help less privileged community members.

The Department of Health formally launched the TMS program on 01 April 2012. The program is community based non-profit health coverage aimed to ensure easy and equitable access to secondary and tertiary health care services. Due to financial constraints, the risk of delaying getting timely medical intervention is high in the exiled Tibetan community. DOHe through the TMS program, an encouraging number of exiled Tibetans in India get health coverage enabling access to timely medical intervention. Currently, 24,190 Tibetans in India are covered under the TMS program.

TMS program is a USAID-supported program. Vulnerable and economically disadvantaged Tibetans in India can avail of subsidised TMS annual premium. For more details contact their respective Tibetan settlement offices or local Tibetan Primary Health Centres or [email protected]
