Dharamshala: Addressing the 108th Covid briefing, taskforce committee member Tenzin Tseyang updated the status of the Covid pandemic in the Tibetan community in the past seven days, reporting two active cases and two quarantines. She expressed gratitude to USAID-led patrons from various countries and organisations for financial support especially during the peak of the Covid pandemic. At the same time, she reported that 94 Tibetans were tested in India and Nepal.
According to the committee’s data, 50,169 and 7,029 adult Tibetans in India and Nepal respectively are completely inoculated while the latter has 287 partially vaccinated Tibetans. Similarly, 1,612 children below 17 in India received both shots of the vaccination, with 457 partly vaccinated. As for Nepal, 109 Tibetans of the same age category were inoculated. In addition, 5,533 elderly Tibetans above 60 in India and 216 in Nepal received booster shots, and 592 front-liners in the two countries got same booster to enhance their immunity against the virus.
Until now, 9,152 Tibetans were reported infected by the Covid virus, from which 8,982 recovered and 168 succumbed.
Following Tenzin Tseyang, Delek Hospital’s Dr Tenzin Namdol apprised the recent Covid surge in India, urging everyone to adhere to Covid guidelines issued by the Central Government of India. She further appealed the Tibetan public to test and follow preventive measures amidst the prospective fourth wave.
