National Workshop on Preservation and Promotion of SOWARIGPA (Studies) in India, organized by National Research Institute for SOWARIGPA, C.C.R.A.S. Ministry of AYUSH, Govt of India, Leh in collaboration of Himalayan Buddhist Cultural Association, Delhi started with presentation of Tibetan scarves (Khatak) by Ven Lama Choesphel Zotpa, President, HBCA and welcome address by Dr. Padma Gurmet, Officer Incharge, National Research Institute for SOWARIGPA, Leh.
The event witnessed the presence of Special Guest by Shri. Indresh Kumar, Executive Member of RSS (Rashtriya Syamsevak Sangh). He stated that allopathic medical cure will collapse if the technologies fail because the system of care is solely based upon technologies, Whereas, SOWARIGPA practice is based upon human to human relation through pulse reading and herbal treatment. He further emphasized that SOWARIGPA healthcare and its indepth knowledge must sustain to impart the significance of Himalayan Culture and its deep rooted traditional wisdom of mankind.
Dr. D. C. Katoch;, Advisor (Ayurveda) Ministry of AYUSH noted that SOWARIGPA must elaborate the entire list of medicinal plants/herbs grown in the region of Himalaya.
Not only this, he stated that it is also important to ensure how these medicinal plants/herbs are nurtured into pills and explore the regulatory process. More importantly, he urged that it is extremely critical to have translation of SOWARIGPA text in other prominent languages including Hindi and English. With this, documentation of diagnosis cases must also be carried out.
Shri. Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, AYUSH Ministry also attended the function. Shri Kotecha being invited as Chief Guest of function highlighted the intervention and deliberation that has been expected from this workshop. He categorically noted that the Ministry has received different voices upon the strengthening of SOWARIGPA knowledge but seldom reflects uniformity in the approach. Adequate research is lacking in this area despite these is an existence of National Research Institute for SOWARIGPA in Leh. He also informed the participants about the Ministry’s proposal to create SOWARIGPA cell to accelerate and coordinate issues of SOWARIGPA.

During this 2 day workshop on SOWARIGPA more than 120 participants including Administrators, Directors, Doctors and students have joined for this workshop, representing different Institutes, and Colleges including Institute of Buddhist Dialectic, Leh; CIHTS, Varanasi; Namgyal Institute of Tibetology; Men-Tse-Khang, Dharamsala; and Central Council of Tibetan Medicine.
