The second leg of the EMC workshop in the North East settlements was successfully held at Tezu on April 23, 2026, with 20 participants in attendance. Ms. Tenzin Kalsang from the department led sessions on antenatal and postnatal care. She has a nursing degree in addition to her master’s degree and has previously trained to lead similar sessions. Her role is anticipated to involve conducting such sessions in remote Tibetan settlements such as Tezu and Tenzingang, where allopathic Tibetan doctors are not based.
Her session was followed by sessions on newborn care conducted by Dr. Tenzin Phagdol and Mr. Jamyang Gyaltsen on early childhood development, focusing on early reading, the importance of free play, and managing screen time. Despite small power outages, sessions ran smoothly with active involvement and engagement from all attendees. Listed mothers for the quarter were issued nutritional supplements following conclusion of the workshop with a lunch. The final leg of EMC workshop is scheduled to be held at Tenzingang Tibetan Settlement on 27th April 2026. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs (USDOS, SCA). The department expresses its heartfelt gratitude for their continued support in ensuring safe motherhood and early child care for the Tibetan community in exile.
