A 13-day preservice training was hosted from Sept 7–19, 2026 at the Tibetan Primary Health Center Dekyiling, Dehradun for newly recruited nurses from Kalimpong and Shimla. The training successfully upskilled  nurses in community-based, holistic patient care through 20 theoretical and practical modules. Key sessions focused on core clinical skills like minor suturing and CPR, Reproductive, Maternal and child health care programs, and proper handling of essential medicines using the FEFO(First Expired, First Out) method. Trainees also received intensive instruction on infection control, geriatric and mental health care, and the TMS billing system. Additionally, the curriculum integrated hands-on outreach activities at camps to emphasize the value of accurate electronic data reporting via the DHIS2 platform. The initiative effectively strengthened the clinical competence and decision-making readiness of new nurses serving remote and underserved communities.This program was funded through the generous support of the U.S Department of State’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs.
