Dharamsala, August 24, 2026 — Health Kalon Ms. Pema Tso conducted her inaugural official visit to the Men-Tsee-Khang Tibetan Medical and Astro Institute (TMAI). The visit commenced with a formal reception and a traditional butter lamp lighting ceremony in the prayer hall, signifying auspicious beginnings. Following these introductory proceedings, the Minister undertook a comprehensive tour of the institute’s administrative headquarters and its diverse specialized departments, including the College, Astro-Science Division, pharmaceutical unit, Materia Medica section, Clinical Research Department, and administrative offices, gaining firsthand insight into the extensive work involved in the production, research, education, and preservation of Tibetan medicine.

Addressing the Director, department heads, staff, doctors, students, and trainees, the Health Kalon expressed her appreciation for their dedication and acknowledged Men-Tsee-Khang’s vital role in safeguarding Tibetan religion, culture, language, and traditional knowledge. She paid tribute to the vision of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the contributions of senior Tibetan practitioners whose efforts enabled the preservation and advancement of Tibetan medicine in exile. Emphasizing the responsibility of the younger generation, she encouraged continued efforts to strengthen the institution’s administration, education, research, and overall capacity while preparing both Tibetan and international students to promote Tibetan medicine globally. Reaffirming the Department of Health’s commitment to supporting Men-Tsee-Khang, she underscored that the preservation and development of Tibetan medicine is a shared responsibility and essential to ensuring its continued benefit for Tibetans and people around the world. In her concluding remarks, Health Kalon Pema Tso expressed her confidence in the dedication and capability of Men-Tsee-Khang’s leadership, staff, and students to carry forward the invaluable legacy of Tibetan medicine. She urged all stakeholders to work collectively in strengthening the institution and preserving its unique medical heritage for future generations.
