Department of Health Welcomes new Kalon Mr Choekyong Wangchuk

The Department of Health, this morning, organised a hearty welcome reception for its new Kalon Mr Choekyong Wangchuk who was nominated by 16th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile as Health Kalon.

This welcome ceremony was attended by Secretary of Central Council of Tibetan Medicine, Dr Tsering Tsamchoe, Dr Tsewang Tamding to represent Director Mr. Tsering Tashi, Men-Tsee-Khang, Secretary of TMAI Mr Tsering Phuntsok and Administrator of Delek Hospital, Mr. Dawa Phunkey, secretary, Section Heads and staff of the Department warmly welcomed the new Kalon with offering followed tea and Desil.

Mr Choekyong Wangchuk was born in Kalimpong in 1971, and currently lives in New Delhi. He completed his class 12th from SFF School, Herbertpur and earned B.A. degree from Punjab University, in 1993, and a PG Diploma in Marketing and Sales Management from Bhartiya Vidhya Bhavan in 1994. In 1991 and 1992 he was elected as the President of Overseas Student’s Association of Govt. College for Men and the President of Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, Chandigarh. From 1995 to 2001, he was elected to the Central Executive Committee of the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC). He served as the Deputy Coordinator and, later, as the Coordinator of the New Delhi-based India Tibet Coordination Office (ITCO) of CTA from 2002 to 2006.
