Taiwan Dental Training at Bir

Health Kalon Dr. Tsering Wangchuk visited Bir Tibetan settlement in Himachal Pradesh on 7 AugustDental Health Training. He was there to preside over the concluding ceremony of a dental training workshop for school nurses and health workers.
The workshop was organised by the health department in collaboration with Taiwan Dental Association, Cathy’s hospital and Taiwan Health Co-Op organisation.
The training was aimed at creating awareness and improving the oral health status of the Tibetan community, especially that of school children. The training introduced school nurses and community health workers to dental care and basic dental procedures.
Dr. Tsering Wangchuk also met the health committee members of Bir and Chauntra, and discussed health related matters facing the settlement. He talked about the Tibetan Medicare System (TMS), an integrated medical insurance scheme offered by the Department of Health to provide financial security to the Tibetan public when faced with serious health problems.
Following his meeting with the health committee, Kalon visited Vivekananda Hospital, and the Leprosy center in Palampur where six Tibetan leprosy patients are admitted. Health Kalon met the Tibetan patients and asked them about their health and means of livelihood.
